Getting started
As you'll quickly realize I am not a very good writer.
I have to start somewhere.
I am hoping this blog will serve as a simple avenue for me to get some thoughts on paper, practice my writing skills, and give me a neat little sandbox to improve over time. I love the idea of a simple blog with MDX pages for quick and easy posts. Also, building and deploying small Next.js apps using Vercel is really kinda insane. I was able to find a simple blog template and spin this up in about 15 minutes. One of the most defeating aspects about development outside of the "the office" is when I get to some configuration stumbling block with things that have no stakes. It's just so easy to give up. I'll spend about 10 minutes fumbling through docs for some tool and then realize I'd rather spend my time with my son, wife, or my latest steam purchase. With Vercel, this has never felt easier to me and I'm chomping at the bit to spin up other quick web apps for anything I can think of.
So I'm getting started.
Every new skill and stage in development, career, and life starts somewhere. I am less of a person who picks up projects that I don't see to comopletion and more of a person who just avoids getting started all together. I'm always envious of the people who have the work ethic to both be incredibly successful in their careers and also seem to do so much outside of work! I don't think I'll ever be one of those people fully. I love my hobbies, family, and balance. However, I could do much better than I am today.
